Use of beams and girders within a structure often result in large concentrated loads supported by columns. These loads typically transfer through a bottom wall plate and floor sheathing which, in turn, requires support. A rim board is often used and must be capable of transferring the load around the floor framing. If these loads are not supported correctly or exceed the capability of the rim board, the structure is subject to failure.
Weyerhaeuser provides a technical bulletin to assist in the proper design of the rim board for large concentrated loads.
