Can TJI® Joists be Used for an Outdoor Deck?

No. As indicated in our TJI® joists Specifier's Guide on pages 6, 10 and 16, TJI® joists are intended for dry-use applications only.

Page 10 of the Specifier's Guide contains information about cantilevered TJI joists (in protected applications) as well as the attachment of treated dimension lumber cantilevered framing for balcony applications.

However, our treated Parallam® Plus PSL beams and columns are suitable for outdoor use.
