Engineered Wood Products (EWP) like Microllam® LVL, Parallam® PSL and TimberStrand® LVL are routinely fastened together using pneumatic framing nailers. In recent years cordless framing nailers have become more popular, and while convenient, the cordless nailers have shown some limitations relative to pneumatic framing nailers.
While we have not done an extensive review of framing nailers, nor do we endorse particular brands/models, positive testimonials have come from builders using the Milwaukee M18 Fuel 21 degree framing nailer. Various online reviews also indicated this specific nailer would be a good candidate for dense wood like EWP. Always be sure to check with nailer manufacturers to see what product(s) they would recommend for your application, and we recommend you test any cordless nailer into EWP prior to purchase to verify you will get the desired performance.
Regardless of the type of nailer being used, always refer to our literature regarding proper fastener size and spacing. That information can be found in literature including our TJI Guides (US, Canada), Beam Guides (US, Canada) and minimum fastener spacing Technical Bulletin.
